WELCOME

Welcome to Turkish Aphid website that gives brief information about general composition of the Turkey aphid fauna. About 6000 aphid species which belong to nearly 510 genera recorded on approximately 300 plant families have been defined worldwide. 12.000 plant species listed in Turkey, and 31% of them are endemic. 675 species and 28 subspecies have been determined across Turkey so far.

Our research team conducted detailed studies at the different geographical regions of Turkey including Far Eastern Black Sea, Western Inner Anatolia, Inner Anatolia, and south Eastern Anatolia and partially Eastern Anatolia regions during last 2 decades. Each project contributed about 10% new records to the Turkey aphid fauna and also other researchers added considerable amount of records. Despite that there are large virgin areas to be studied in detail to have an idea about current and future composition of Turkey aphid fauna.

This webpage provides origins, worldwide-Turkey distribution, host plant preferences and host plants record in Turkey, and some personal experiences gained during extensive field works such as ant-bee-fly attendance, colony appearance and special damages to host plants.

I hope information and experiences shared at this webpage is going to encourage researchers who interest with Turkey aphid fauna and create chances for possible collaborations. Information supplied for each species here is going to be updated regularly, so we will be glad to receive any feedback to improve this webpage.
